Proverbs 13:18 (ESV)
Poverty and disgrace come to him who ignores instruction, but whoever heeds reproof is honored.

Some people are born poor, and some people are born into prosperous families but become poor. Poverty comes to them like an unstoppable tsunami. They have had every advantage in life but still live their lives (after their parents go to heaven) in ever-deepening poverty. When the mommy-daddy-bailouts are over, things crash quickly. Why? Because in their pride, they have never learned to listen. Parents, we must teach the next generation to listen. Their self-confidence is wonderful, but it must never go too far that it becomes the arrogance of a closed mind. Rehoboam is the greatest example of this truth.
