1 Kings 18:20–22 (ESV)

20 So Ahab sent to all the people of Israel and gathered the prophets together at Mount Carmel.

21 And Elijah came near to all the people and said, “How long will you go limping between two different opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him.” And the people did not answer him a word.

22 Then Elijah said to the people, “I, even I only, am left a prophet of the Lord, but Baal’s prophets are 450 men.

Being in the land allows you to read the Bible with fresh eyes. On Mount Carmel, you can see so much of the land in all directions. When it is not cloudy, it may give one of the best views of Israel. Here, Elijah challenged the people to serve God, and they just looked at him with no answer. I just shake my head in wonder at the people’s response to a man of God as He presents God to them. The problem was not that they had rejected God. They just had not decided about God or Baal, a demon god. The effect of this lack of decision was they were “limping” through life. Their lives were crippled by their lack of decision to serve the one true God. Beloved, do not live a crippled life. Choose this day to serve the living God.
